Mohammed Abul-Kassem ibn Hawqal (traveled 943-969 AD) mentioned the Citadel and its Jame Mosque in his book (Ibn Hawqal, 1345 Hijri Shamsi (solar)).
Muhammad ibn Ahmad Shams al-Din Al-Muqaddasi (died 1000 AD) mentioned the Citadel of Bam and its Jame Mosque and Bazaars (Al Muqaddasi, 1361 Hijri Shamsi (solar)).
The mosque [Jame Mosque] of the Citadel had several periods of construction starting from the Saffarid dynasty (861 to 1003 AD). Its huge iwan (resembling the great iwans of the Parthian (150 BC- 224 AD) and Sassanid (226-651 AD) periods. Its huge scale resembles the Jame Mosque and Arg Alishah in Tabriz, which typifies the vanished greatness of the the Saffarid period (Pop, Nourbakhsh, 2535 [1353 Hijri Shamsi (solar)]).
An inscription remains in the mosque with the date of 1751 AD (the Safavid period) (Gaube, 1370)
