District, which consisted of several quarters for inhabitants of the Citadel and public buildings. It is located south of the Governor’s district and surrounded by the city wall
Historical Summary--Core Data Index Metadata
The oldest remain of this district is probably the main iwan of Jame Mosque from the Saffarid dynasty (861- 1003 AD), (Pop, Nourbakhsh, 2535 [1353 Hijri Shamsi (solar)]). Some large adobewalls of houses also remain in this district from the same period as the iwan of Jame Mosque. During these periods and before the destruction of the city, the current citadel was the residence of the aristocrats or rich families forming part of the larger city of Bam. After the invasion of Ghoz into Kerman, the region was mostly destroyed, especially the qanat systems (Aasefi Heravi, 1343). [The inhabitants who remained after the destruction of the larger city came inside the walls of the present day Citadel and the larger citadel shrank to its current size. They replaced the large and luxurious buildings and rich districts with small and ordinary houses]. This event might have happened in 1409 AD by the order of the Teimorid governor of the city (Tayyari, 1383). [remains of different buildings show continuous habitation in this district from the Teimorid (1370-1507 AD) to Qajar(1794-1925 AD) periods]
