Tokyo Symposium for Digital Silk Roads (DSR Tokyo) addresses to provide an opportunity to discuss on Silk Roads researches with the new aspects from the collaboration of culture and digital technology. Silk Roads had a profound impact on cultural encounter between the East and West over the past millenniums. Cultural heritages reflecting the cultural diversity of Silk Roads must be preserved into the future with the worldwide cooperation. Along with the history, numerous researches and expeditions have been taken place to study human history on Silk Roads. Silk Roads countries have been making efforts to promote preservation of cultural heritages and publication of its research materials, which however have been increasingly deteriorating due to the several factors such as natural causes, destruction, and lack of maintenance. With a full use of global communication environment and cutting-edge digital technologies, creation and publication of global information resources for the Silk Roads heritages are urgently needed to lead humanity interest in preserving world heritages as well as to accelerate various researches under the convenient information retrieval environment. The objective of Tokyo Symposium is to open the door into the realization of the global information resources, coordinating user requirements in cultural field and research seeds in digital technology field. Authors are invited to submit proposal on Silk Roads researches in cultural and digital technology fields. The proposal should be sent to the Symposium Secretariat by post-mail or email, postmarked NO later than September 15, 2001. The official language in Tokyo Symposium is in English.

REQUIREMENTS FOR PRESENTATION AND EXHIBITION

All accepted proposals should be presented or demonstrated with equipments at poster session. Exhibition is held on different floor for three days.

  1. The proposal description, not exceeding 1,000 words in English indicating significance of contribution
  2. The separate cover page (MsWord version) (PDF version) should include
  3. - Title of the proposal
    - Name, affiliation, and complete address with postal code for each author
    - A designated author should be marked by circle
    - A designated contact person including his/her telephone number, fax number, and email address
    - A type(s) of submission (poster, demonstration, and/or exhibition)
    - Additional information for those who will demonstrate or exhibit
    The participants are responsible for expenses on carry-in/out of equipments. The date of carry-in/out will be notified by the secretariat. The equipment layout should be as simple as possible for limited space.
  4. Submission Deadline :September 15, 2001


NOTICE OF ACCEPTANCE

Notice of acceptance or rejection will be mailed to the designated contact person by September 30, 2001 through deliberation by extended steering committee.


PRESENTATION

  1. The several papers to be presented in the morning session of the second day will be selected from the poster session proposals (including demonstration) and notified. The papers should be within six-page spread in A4 size including color pages.
  2. The accepted authors should send the camera-ready file for the symposium proceedings to the address below by October 31, 2001. Those who make presentation in the morning session of the second day should prepare his/her paper, and authors with poster or demonstration should prepare his/her proposal description.
  3. The format and media will be sent separately.
