Description Hedin’s expedition report of his travels across the Persian desert from October 1905 to June 1906. Hedin traveled east of Tehran to explore the 500 kilometer expanse of salty desert, known as the Kavir Desert. Hedin discovered during his exploration of the region that the desert’s great salt water lake was formed by the buildup of salt sediments resulting from rapid evaporation in the high temperatures.
