Herr PAVCK was occupied at the moment in laying out the new landing-field intended for the Shanghai-Urumchi-Berlin air-route. It was i,000 by Boo m; 15o workmen were employed. The aeroplanes, that had hitherto covered the distance from Suchow to Hami in two and a half hours, would in future be able to land at Anhsi if rough weather was predicted.

When Count BELA SZICIinNYI reached Anhsi with L, czY and KiEITNER in 1883, after crossing the whole of China and Kansu, it was rightly held in geographical circles that he had done something remarkable. Many times, in after years, I had talked to Sz cm NYI and L, czY in Budapest of their brilliant journey, so rich in results. When now, more than fifty years later, I myself approached Anhsi, I had a feeling of being, if not nearly home, at least a good way on the road.
