In camp the instruments have always been set on a board fixed to a tripod stand, and stood in the shade at the edge of a tent verandah awning.
In quarters they have stood on the tripod in the open air of a court-yard in the shade on north side of a
wall.
The, higher reading of the wet bulb thermometer in frosty and very damp weather seems to be attributable to the protection afforded to the bulb against the operation of the air by a thin layer of frost or unevaporated water, in either case respectively, remaining in the meshes of its covering muslin.
