Srihitta: the Bengali name in use is

 

Simla, a sanitarium, Lat. 31°, Long. 77°, and district in the Western

Himalaya    Hind.

This place is said to have its name from a plant, Bombax malabarica (silk-cotton tree), frequently 'met with in this region; the native name of this plant is Sémul. Journ. As. Soc. Beng., Vol. XVIII., p. 431.

Sindh, or Sfndhu, a river    Sanskr.

"(The Indus) River in general (also ocean)."

There are several rivers of this name in India, and the same denomination is bestowed on the country adjacent to the lower course of the Indus, from Lat. 23-29°.

putrid. The name refers to a swampy ground near the village where was formerly a lake.
