Layer management is the process of naming and making different categories of layers for 3-D models according to their characteristics in the target building. The name of a layer corresponds to the semantic categories of the 3-D model. The layer names were kept short and written in such a way that different developers could easily recognize, define, and modify

therefore, instead of a word, a single letter indicates a specific subject in the layer. In some cases, these letters are different from international standard abbreviations. The reason was to make the names and usage shorter and more practical. Each layer name consists of 3 parts, Prefix, infix, and suffix.
Layer name prefix consists of:
Specification of name of building that follows its function
Specification of term "circulation" for a component that is part of a circulation element like an alley
Specification of term "landscape" for green spaces and natural sceneries
Specification of term "topography" for topography of ground
Specification of term "Vague" for a building that does not have a name, lacks of data, or is small or less important (the 3-D model is conceptual)
Specification of term "wall" for city, defensive or surrounding wall
Layer name infix consists of:
Specification of number 1 when an imprecise map (mostly surveyed before quake) is used
Specification of number 2 when a precise map (mostly surveyed before quake and corrected after) is used
Specification of number 3 when a photo is used
Specification of number 4 when a sketch by domain experts in the architectural or historical fields is used
Specification of number 5 when a drawing of a similar style of construction or shape is used
Specification of number 6 when a laser scan is used
Specification of number 7 when 3D cartography is used
Specification of number 8 when a basic 3D drawing is used
Layer name suffix consists of:
Specification of character "d" for a door component
Specification of character "f" for a floor component
Specification of character "g" for a small garden in interior space of the building
Specification of character "l" for a wall component
Specification of character "o" for an ornament or decoration
Specification of character "r" for a roof component
Specification of character "t" for the topography inside the area of a building
Specification of character "w" for a window component
Specification of suffix character plus character "e" for a component at exterior space
Specification of suffix character plus character "i" for a component in the interior space below the ceiling of a closed space
