شديـد السطـوة لا تأخذه في الله لـومة لائـم وكانت الامـرآء
تخافه ولقد ذُكر لى ان الملك الناصر قال يوما لجلسائـه ان
لا اخاف من احد الا من شمس الـدين الـحريـرى ومـنـهـم
قاضى الـقـضاة الحنبلية ولا اعرفه الآن الا انـه كان يـدعى بعزّ
الدين،
حكاية كان الملك الناصر رحمه الله يقعد لنظر في المظالم
ورفع قصص المشتكيـن كل يوم اثـنين وخميس ويقعد القضاة
الاربعة عن يسارة وتقرأ القصص بـين يديه ويعيّن من يسأل
صاحب الـقصّة عنها وقد سلك مولانا امير المومنين، ناصر
الدين، أيّده الله في ذلك مسلكا لم يُسبَق اليه، ولا مزيد في
العدل والتواضع عليه، وهو سوأله بذاته الكريمة، كل منـظـلم

le redoutaient, et l'on m'a conté qu'Almélic annâcir dit un
jour à ses commensaux : « Je ne crains personne, excepté
Chems eddin Alhariry. » 4° le kâdhi des kâdhis des han-
balites. A présent je ne me rappelle rien à son sujet, si ce
n'est qu'on l'appelait Izz eddin.
ANECDOTE.
Le feu Almélic annâcir donnait des audiences tous les
lundis et les jeudis, dans le but d'examiner les plaintes et de
recevoir les placets des plaignants. Les quatre kâdhis pre-
naient place à sa gauche, et on lisait les requêtes devant lui.
Il chargeait quelqu'un d'interroger le requérant sur le con-
tenu de sa demande. Notre maître, le prince des croyants,
Nâcir eddin (le défenseur de la religion, que Dieu l'assiste!)
a adopté dans la même matière une conduite pour laquelle
il n'a pas eu de modèle, et qui ne peut être surpassée en
équité ni en humilité. Cette conduite consiste à interroger
