another aspect of the mountains south of the lake. To the W. N. W., we have the per-
spective of the mountains surrounding the basin of *Shemen-tso*. At about N. 30° W.,
are the ridges and ramifications to which the group, »N. 3° E.» on the previous
panorama, belongs. To the N. N. E. and N. E. are the mountains bounding the ex-
tensive arena plain, and continuing to the east and E. S. E. To the S. E., is the
prolongation of the latitudinal valley and the direction of our march to *Camp
CCCXXIV*. To the S. S. E., south and S. S. W., are the mountains which belong
to the system south of *Shemen-tso*.
