I may call attention to the scene showing the so-called
Bath of the Buddha after his birth. According to the legend
of the Thunder Clouds, which perform the service accord-
ing to Indian tradition, here come from the different great
Dragons by the Chinese painter. Finally at the bottom we
see the traditional scene of the human kings welcoming the
infant Bodhisattva immediately after that birth, to the
astonishment of the court ladies watching it, and see a
lotus springing up beneath each step.
We see the legendary scene depicted in the bottom panel
of the banner shown in Fig. 94. The latter shows three
traditional scenes of the Buddha's nativity in consecutive
fashion. Above we see his mother Maya resting in her couch
