et que sa «douzième année» résulte d'une confusion avec le
«douzième mois» qu'indique le texte du Kieou t'ang chou.
En 821, le qaghan qui avait érigé l'inscription de Karabal-
gasoun mourut et, presque aussitôt après, la cour impériale
accorda à son successeur l'infante de Chine qu'elle avait précé-
demment refusée. Nous lisons dans le T'ang houei yao (chap. 98,
fol. 8 v°) [Texte XXIV] : «La première année tch'ang-k'ing
(821), le troisième mois, Pao-yi qaghan (= le qaghan protec-
teur de la justice) mourut; on suspendit les audiences de la
cour pendant trois jours. Le quatrième mois, on conféra par
brevet au qaghan des Ouigours le titre (1) de Kiun (Kün) (2) teng-
li-lo (tängridä) yu-lou (ülüg) mi-che (bulmyš) (3) keou-tchou-
