From Srinâgar (Kashmir) to Raulpîndi (Pâniâb).
A principal route, passable for horses. Road partly
made and generally good.

Srînâgar, 34° 4'·6; 74° 48'·5 ft.; 5,146 ft., on
the Jhilum river, the capital of Kashmîr. As
far as

Baramûla the best and easiest way is by
going by boat down the Jhilum, and passing
through the Vûllar lake — Cross the Jhilum
river — Continue along the left bank of the
Jhilum river — Shéri — Kichiháma — Gantamûla.

Naushéra, an easy stage from Baramûla —
Cross the Jhilum river by a ferry — Limbur —
Cross a river by a bridge — Tetamûla — Kâchena
— Cross a river — Nûrka — Cross the Nîla Nag
river by a bridge — Gingal — Doár — Purâna Uri.

Gôrigârh, a fort on the right bank of the
Jhilum river, opposite Uri — Continue as far as
Mozâfarabâd along the right side of the Jhilum
valley — Dâchi — Sultân Dâki — Cross a river —
Shâdera — Cross a river — Talâcha — Steep
descent — Cross the Léven river — Rîkund — Pâla
— Méra.

Kathái, rather a long march — Cross the Kâr-
thâma river by a bridge — Bûra.

Buliâssa, 7 miles from Kathái (an easy march)
— Cross a large river by a bridge — Denâia —
Naugrâ — Chîroi — Kândo — Nadôl — Adamsháhar
— Kâkarvâra — Naushéra — Néra — Dobâta — Cross
a river.

Hathiân, on the right bank of the Jhilum
river (level of the river 2,529 ft.) — Continue

along the right bank of the Jhilum river —
Tutatéri — Balotár — Lângarpur (2,266 ft.).

Mozafarabád (2,221 ft.), 14 miles from
Hathiân — Cross the Kishangânga river by a
bridge (level of the river 2,164 ft.) — Cross the
Dûp pass (4,491 ft.).

Gârhi Havibûlla (2,678 ft.), with a small bân-
galo, on the right bank of the Nainsûk river;
the village is situated on its left bank (an easy
march) — Continue for two miles along the right
bank of the Nainsûk river — Utar Lîsa (3,633 ft.;
road very good, but very winding).

Manséra, 15 miles from Gârhi Havibûlla —
Mângul (4,024 ft.).

Abbotabád (4,055 ft.) — Châmba (2,197 ft.), on
the left bank of the Dôr river.

Hâripur, 20 miles from Abbotabád (road very
good, and continues almost level to Raulpîndi)
— Kôt.

Usmân Kâtir — Join the Peshâur road —
Châni ke Sang.

Raulpîndi, 33° 36'·5; 72° 59'·8 ft.; 1,737 ft.
