Route No. 179.

From z RÛKCHIN (Ladâk) to ÜPSHI (Ladâk).

A principal route, passable for horses.

Rzik,chin, 33° 14'; 77° 50'; 15,764 ft. (see p. 104)—Cross the Takelang, or Tung Lung pass (17,727 ft.) — Rimchi (one mile and a half from Gyâ).

Gyâ (13,548 ft.; a rather long march)—Descend the Gyâ, or Mândur valley (road good)—Miru

(12,248 ft.), 7 miles from Gyâ.   -

Upshi, 33° 42'; 77° 21', on the left bank of the Indus river, at the junction with the Gyâ, or Mândur river (level of the Indus river 11,249 ft.). An easy march, tpshi being distant only 7 miles from Miru.

Route No. 180.

From SÂIRI (Simla) to OHIRGAÛ (Simla).

A secondary route, passable for horses.

Sairi, 31° 8'; 77° 45'—Continue along the right . bank of the Pâbar river — Pursâri — Cross the Pursâr nalah.

R ôru (5,513 ft.), on the right bank of the Pâbar river, 10 miles from Ha,th (an easy march) — Continue along the right bank of the Pâbar river—Jâkhar— Cross the Matriti n ,lah — Tholi —Cross the Andriti river.

Chirg dû, 31° 14'; 77° 52', 12 miles from R6ru, near the confluence of the Andriti and Pâbar rivers (level of the confluence 5,607 ft.).

SÂLUNG (Girhvâl) to SÛKHI (Girhvâl).

A secondary route, impassable for horses.

Sdlung, 30° 50'; 78° 38'; 6,455 ft., on the left bank of the Bhagirâthi river — Continue along the left bank of the Bhagirâthi river.

Uri, or Hdri (6,252 ft.), on the left bank of the Bhagirâthi river (road dreadful in several places). Near tri are hot springs - Continue along the left bank of the Bhagirâthi river—Cross several nélahs—pMétsa—Cross the Bhagirâthi river (7,608 ft.)—Ascent.

Sûkhi, 30° 59'; 78° 42'; 8,401 ft., on the right bank of the Bhagirâthi river. A long march from Uni to Sûkhi.
