The Sắtlej Valley and the Environs of Rámpur in the Western Himálaya. |
Citation Information
OCR Text
The line of snow peaks, from 19000 to 20000 Engl. feet in height, is the southern front of the snowy range of the Western Himalaya. The abrupt and precipitous break in the general inclination of the mountains at the same level on both sides of the Sátlej valley is the effect of erosion, and represents a very general form of Himalayan valleys. Rámpur itself, the chief place of the Hill State of Bassahr, lies behind the terrace on which stands the small native fort. The large magnolia trees in the foreground are in full blossom.
