The flats of the Híron valley from the Barḗr plateau near Kattíngi, Central India. |
Citation Information
OCR Text
The principal river flowing towards the left is the Hiron which takes its rise not far from that of the Narbada in the more distant hills in the background. One of its affluents passes the white temples of the village Patria. The Narbada valley merging into the horizon on the left, forms the wide flat area in the centre, and is covered with a thick alluvium of rich black soil yielding plentiful harvests. Wheat and johar are the principal products, though little rice is cultivated. The foreground and the spots descending from it are composed of red sandstone, the dominant sandstone of these regions, and are covered with low jungles which form the favourite resort of many gazelles, but at the same time harbour a variety of beasts of prey.
