Le concours de tir à l'arc. — C'est à ce moment qu'il nous faut
sans doute intercaler la scène de tir à l'arc que possède le British
Museum (fig. 170) : encore pourrait-on souhaiter que les assistants
en fussent un peu mieux caractérisés. Quant au jeune prince,
gageons qu'il est représenté au moment où il tend l'arc terrible
de son aïeul Simhahanu, que, selon le vieux cliché épique, il est
seul capable de manier. Devant lui un garçonnet soutient un gros
carquois. Au-dessus, grâce à un raccourci hardi, le sculpteur a pro-
