M. S. d'Oldenburg cite à l'appui de son hypothèse un très curieux
passage de la relation de Hiuan-tsang, lequel se rapporte à l'Udyâna,
le pays limitrophe au nord du Gandhâra. Il y est question du Nâga
Apalâla qui habitait la source même du Çubhavastu, aujourd'hui
le Swât; comme il ravageait sans cesse la vallée, le Bienheureux
se serait déplacé en personne pour l'amener à composition : «Sa
