UNE LETTRE INÉDITE
DU VOYAGEUR ANDRÉ MICHAUX ¹
André Michaux, né à Satory le 7 mars 1746, étudia
la botanique à Trianon en 1777 sous Bernard de
Jussieu. Il trouva l'occasion d'aller en Perse avec
Jean-François-Xavier Rousseau², cousin issu de ger-
main de Jean-Jacques, qui, arrivé à Paris en décembre
1780, avait été nommé consul titulaire de Bassorah
et regagnait son poste. « Michaux, nous dit Deleuze³
dans l'excellente notice qu'il a consacrée à notre
voyageur, fut autorisé à l'accompagner, et Monsieur,
frère du roi, lui assigna 1.200 livres d'appointemens.
