Museum

Bamiyan is a heritage site of Buddhist remains carved on the rock cliffs of the Hindu Kush Mountains that stand 5000 meters high penetrating the middle of Afghanistan. This heritage site is situated in the lush Bamiyan Valley and was constructed between the 5th and 6th centuries AD.

The region along the northern border of Afghanistan near the Oxus River was called Bactria in ancient times. It is recorded in the "Journey to the West in the Great Tang Dynasty" by Chinese's great monk Xuan Zang as the land of Tokhara, and was called Tokharistan when the region came under Islamic control.

Dunhuang was an oasis town which prospered as an important outpost for east and west trading. In the year 115 BC, Emperor Wu of Han established a strategic military garrison in Dunhuang as a defense against the Western Regions. Subsequent dynasties continued to utilize Dunhuang as a key base for trading between east and west through the Silk Road.

  北大仏殿莫高窟北区

The Gansa corridor ("west of the river") that connects Xi'an and Dunhuang is a land belt surrounded by mountain ranges and deserts and because it stretches to the west of the Yellow River, it is called the Gansu corridor.
