A guide board at the entrance. ; Located around 50km northeast of the Turfan, Bezeklik is the biggest caves which has over 70 caves. Bezeklik means “place where there are paintings and ornaments” in the Uigur language. The best paintings date to the period of Uighur domination. The paintings are both Indo-Persian and Chinese styles and represent the Uighur Empire at its height. Many of the wall paintings from Bezeklik were taken by von Le Coq and other explorers.
