Russian orientalist, he is also known by his Russian name Vasilij Vasilievich Radlov. From 1850-70, Radloff traveled to Siberia, Altai, and Turkestan where he conducted studies in local languages, anthropology and archaeology. Organizing the Russian Committee for the Study of Central and East Asia, Radoff was very active in raising the level of Central Asian and Turkic studies in Russia. In 1918, he organized a team to travel to Turfan. He became a member of the Russian Academy of Sciences in 1884. | |
