Report on Archaeological Works of 1906 to 1907 at Kucha, Karashahr and in the Turfan Oasis

There are six principal study areas, Kumtura near Kucha, Kizil, Kirisch, Shorchuk in the southwest of Karashahr, Bezeklik to the north of Turfan, and Toyuk-Mazar. The report contains particularly detailed descriptions of the Kizil Caves and the Bezeklik Caves. In particular, Grünwedel’s detailed partial sketches of the Wall paintings in the Kizil Caves are extremely accurate, and are very valuable resource for iconography research.
