Peintures et Sculptures Bouddhiques des Epoques des Wei, des T'ang et des Song
Buddhist Paintings and Sculptures Dating from Wei Period to T'ang and Song Dynasties
A collection of photographs taken in 1908 at the Mogao Caves in Dunhuang by a 1906-1908 expedition led by French explorer Pelliot. The photographs, taken by Charles Nouette, are in monochrome. After numbering the hundreds of caves from south to north, Nouette photographed the statues and paintings inside the caves, making this document the first complete record of the site. The collection is extremely valuable as it includes photographs of paintings that were later lost due to natural disasters or deliberate destruction, and detailed photographs of paintings before they started to decay.

Voyages d'Ibn Batoutah
texte arabe, accompagné d'une traduction
The Voyages of Ibn Battuta is the account of the traveler’s 30 year journey, starting in 1325. Ordered by the Sultan of Morocco to write down the account of his travels, Ibn Battuta recounted everything to the scribe, Ibn Juzayy. Ibn Juzayy compiled and edited the tales into a manuscript which was given the title, Gift to Those Who Contemplate the Wonders of Cities and the Marvels of Travelling. Beginning in Mecca, Ibn Battuta traveled to Yemen and into East Africa. He also visited what is present day Turkey and to various parts of India before traveling as far east as China. In Africa, he crossed the Sahara to travel to many of the African kingdoms in sub-Saharan Africa. This particular version of the book was compiled using five manuscripts (including Ibn Juzayy’s original manuscript) held in the National Library in France. In order to have the most reliable version, a direct translation was made of the work into French with extensive notes. It is the most widely used version of the manuscript by scholars of Ibn Battuta.

Publié sous les Auspices du Ministère de l'Instruction Publique et des Beaux-Arts
Report on the results of expedition to Turkestan undertaken by Jules Léon Dutreuil de Rhins (1846-1894) together with Fernand Grenard (1866-?) during 1891-1895. Published by the latter after the death of Dutreuil de Rhins. Contains geological and archaeological collections, photographs, maps, and data of atomospheric pressure. Have great academic value at that time and even till today. Especially palm leaf manuscripts purchased in Khotan are as important as the Bower manuscript found in Kucha. These findings arose enthusiasm of expedition in Central Asia by European countries.
