| Peintures et Sculptures Bouddhiques des Epoques des Wei, des T'ang et des Song | |
| Buddhist Paintings and Sculptures Dating from Wei Period to T'ang and Song Dynasties | |
| A collection of photographs taken in 1908 at the Mogao Caves in Dunhuang by a 1906-1908 expedition led by French explorer Pelliot. The photographs, taken by Charles Nouette, are in monochrome. After numbering the hundreds of caves from south to north, Nouette photographed the statues and paintings inside the caves, making this document the first complete record of the site. The collection is extremely valuable as it includes photographs of paintings that were later lost due to natural disasters or deliberate destruction, and detailed photographs of paintings before they started to decay. | |
