AMBOLT and CARLSON were to be responsible for the headquarters and the accounts. Professor YUAN was to remain in Urumchi for a while before continuing his work to the north of the T'ien-shan; and Dr HAuiE was going to ride, after Christmas, to the Bogdo-ula and afterwards to Pichan. HASLUND was to journey to the Qara-shahr Torguts again.

The botanical and zoological collections we took with us; these were to be taken to Stockholm by BERGMAN. Most of our original maps were to follow us to Peking, while copies of them, as well as all the geological, palaeontological and archaeological collections were left behind in Urumchi
