As I have pointed out in the Editorial Remarks, there are a few inconsistencies in the spelling of place-names and personal names. I do not think, however, that this will give rise to any actual misunderstanding. Dr. K. GRONBECII, who has checked the transcription of the Mongol names, has unfortunately been prevented by illness from completing this work. Some Mongol names in Parts II and III have thus not been corrected by him It has also been impossible to verify the names of the small places along the main road through Kansu (end of Part III), so that several of them have probably been defectively transcribed.
