Perhaps the most noteworthy fact in regard to the people is that their characteristic traits of comparative honesty, courage in spite of superstition, industry, intense love of home, and cheerfulness under difficulty, are those which, all over the world, seem to make mountaineers, of whatever race, better men than the inhabitants of plains, where life is easy.
