| サンパン（三板） サンパンは、その呼び名（「3枚の板」）が示すように、見た目は今にも壊れそうだ。これは全くトリガイの殻のようだ。しかし、外国製の大きなボートが必ず浸水するようなところに出現する。短い航海をする唯一の方法で、外国製ボートの便を使えない居合わせた通行人が利用できるので、上海のサンパンは絶対に必要だ。大きな平坦な羽のついたスカルがスクリュー・プロペラの原理で動いて進む。内部はそれほど豪華ではない。雨の日には、雨が打ち込むのを防ぐマットで新鮮な空気が入らないため、船室に入るのは嫌がられる。特に嫌がられるのは、「キャプテン」でも「エンジニア」でも、船を動かす人にぴったりした呼び方であれば何でもいいのだが、その人物が自分の晩飯を用意している最中である。SAMPAN!
