Ghat Hind.
"The passes." Two mountain ranges in Southern India, the one along the Western, the other along the Eastern coast.
Ghat is also very often used in compound names.

"The town of the Ghaus." Ghaus, helping man, or pious man.
G h a z a b g A r h, in Sindh, Lat. 25°, Long. 70° soy Arab. Hind.
"Ghcizab's town." Ghâzab, rage, wrath, probably a part of a personal name. Ghazi ka thâna, in Rajvara, Lat. 27°, Long. 76' UL€.3 b' L,)l.c Arab. Hind.
"G h d z i's place, or abode." Ghazi , champion of the faith, also used as a personal name.

"Ghdzis town." For Ghâzi see the preceding name.
The Hindus say that this is a Sanskr. name, derived from Gâda, who was a brother of Krishna, and that it has only received an Arabic form from the Mussalmâns. Wilford, in As. Res., Vol. IX., p. 34.

"Town of Sava, the lord of the mountains." Giridhâra, or abbreviated (Hind.) Girdhar, means supporting the mountains, and is an epithet of Siva.
