Cette publication remarquable 2 qui met au point, si je puis m'exprimer ainsi, la question de MANDE-VILLE, n'a pas été suffisamment connue dans le monde savant français, et je ne sache pas qu'elle ait eu en Angleterre, sauf dans deux publications périodiques estimées 3 et dans le monde spécial de la bibliophilie l'accueil qu'elle méritait.
Il est bien entendu pour le grand public et même pour quelques autres que Jean de Mandeville, chevalier anglais, natif de St. Albans, passa « la meer lan millesme cccMe vintisme et secund, le iour de Seint Michel 4 » et qu'il a voyagé depuis dans l'Asie entière au xive siècle, que pour se reposer de ses fatigues il écrivit dans la retraite le récit de ses
