Le colonel Yule, qui recevait de toutes parts de nouveaux renseignements, me disait, l'année dernière à Pâques : « J'aurais voulu faire une troisième édition du Marco Polo. » Il n'en eut pas le temps ; d'autres travaux avaient d'ailleurs occupé les dernières années de sa vie.
Le plus important de ces travaux est dû à la collaboration de Yule avec Arthur Coke BURNELL. l3rurnell, par des travaux comme le Handbook of South Indian PalEeography 1, The Ordinances of Manu, ouvre posthume 2, a conquis une des premières places parmi les indianistes de notre époque : il avait justement les connaissances philologiques qui faisaient défaut à Yule, archéologue et géographe.
