Le titre était mauvais, mais l'ouvrage excellent. Ce glossaire, qui forme un énorme in-8 de 870 pages à deux colonnes, donne non seulement l'explication des termes que l'on peut rencontrer dans les ouvrages relatifs à l'Asie orientale, mais aussi, quand il s'agit de mots géographiques, un résumé chronologique, et une bibliographie des pays et des lieux dont il est question. C'est, en Uri mot, une vaste encyclopédie de tout ce qui se rapporte aux Indes, à l' Indo-Chine, à l'empire chinois et au Japon.
D'ailleurs ces travaux allaient utilement servir à Yule dans sa dernière grande publication, celle du journal de William HEDGES 1. Le journal de cet ancien agent de la Compagnie des Indes orientales au Bengale, qui s'étend du 25 novembre 1681 au 6 mars 1688, devait, avec une transcription de R. Barlow et des notes de Yule, former un volume de la collection
