On our right, that is to the west, we had low hills, from which several brooks descend to the river and the western lake, as also to several pools situated alongside of it. valleys, with small brooks in them, all of which make their way into the lake. We also went over three small passes, of which the highest, the middle one of the three, reached an altitude of 4918 m. The tents of the nomads began to stand closer and closer together; in a district called Tsukar they were especially numerous.
