TO NGANGLARING-TSO.

399 the Pedang Range. Pan. 527A, B and c, Tab. 99, is taken from Camp CCCCXXXII. It goes all around the horizon, showing the Surla Range to the east and the Pedang Range to the west.

On 7une 19th, our road goes along the Pedang-clru 22.1 km. N. N. E. to Camp CCCCXXXIII, Tsole-shung, at an altitude of 4,889 m., a fall of 18o m. at

a rate of 1: 123. From this Camp we have to note Pan. 526A and B, Tab. 99, being a good view of the western side of the Surla Range with some of its comparatively mighty snow-peaks, some of them certainly giving birth to small glaciers.

The next travelling day, Tune 21st, we travelled north to Shovo-Iso, first 14.4 km.

to the pass, Abuk-la, 5,084 m. high, a rise of 195 m. at a rate of I :74. The descent, 6.6 km. to Camp CCCCXXXIV on the lake, at an altitude of 4,784 m., was 30o m. and the rate 1 :22. Pan. 529, Tab. I oo, is taken from Abuk-la. It shows the lake Shove-Iso in the foreground, and to the north of it considerable mountains, which also are situated to the N. E. of Ng-ang-laring-Iso. To the N. 3o° E. is the important pass Ka-la, and to the N. 55° E. another pass called Tokchen-la. Pan. 528, Tab. 99, is taken from Cai;ap CCCCXXXI V on the shore of Shove-Ise, showing the old beach-lines and the valley up to Ka-la.

Leaving the lake on rune 22nd, we marched N. W. for 12 km. to the pass

Tela-mala-la, 5,160 m. high, or an ascent of 376 m. and a rate of I : 32. On the northern side we had 4.1 km. to Camp CCCCXXXV, Sermo-kunglung, 5,041 m. high, or a descent of 119 m. at a rate of 1:34. From Tela- or Tele-mala-la Pan. 530, Tab. I oo, was drawn to the S. E. showing a part of the basin of Shove-Ise and a portion of the Surla Range. Pan. 532, Tab. i oo, was drawn to the W. S. W. and W. N. W. from the same pass, showing comparatively moderate mountains.

On 7une 23rd, our journey goes 3.4 km. N. N. W. to Tayep larva-la, 5,452 m.

high, a rise of 41 I m. at a rate of 1 :8.3. Another 3 km. in the same direction take us to Camp CCCCXXX VI, where the altitude is 5,119 m., a fall of 333 m. at a rate of I : 9. Both sides of this pass are, therefore, rather steep. Pan. 53 I, Tab. I oo, is a view from Tayep parva-la. The snowy range seen on it to the S. E. and

S. S. E. is the Surla Range. Pan. 534, Tab. 100, is taken from Camp CCCCXXXVI,

and gives us the first view of Nganglaring-/so along to the N. W. When travelling along only one shore of a lake it is, of course, impossible to get an idea of the whole lake. The form I have given to Nganglaring-tso on Pl. 23 will in the future be very much changed. The first surveyor has, however, to make the best of the material he is able to collect. To me and my assistants the panoramas, as e. g. No. 534, Tab. Ioo, have been a great help. On the other hand, xhe form of the large island with its four promontories seems unlikely. A future detailed mapping of this lake will show how insufficient my observations were.
