Au début de la période tchong-t'ong (1260—1263), le duc de
Wou-ting vint rendre hommage à la cour ¹). L'empereur l'approuva;
il lui fit don d'un sceau en or (à poignée en forme) de tigre afin
qu'il commandât dans son ancien territoire. A partir du moment où
le duc (de Wou-ting) eut reçu cette délégation, il redoubla d'efforts.
Il réconforta et calma les barbares Man et Yi; il exhorta et exerça
ses officiers et ses soldats; il attaqua Chan-chan ²) et soumit Che-
tch'eng ³); il triompha de Sin-hing ⁴) et s'empara de Siun-tien ⁵). Il
brisa sur les rives du Eul hai ⁶) les trois cent mille soldats étroite-
ment réunis ⁷) de Cho-li-wei ⁸); il écrasa sur les bords de la rivière
