aucun doute ne subsiste plus en ce qui concerne les sept person-
nages qui — non sans accuser la différence des rangs par l'inferio-
rité de leur taille — encadrent sur le soubassement de la figure 77
la série des sept derniers et du prochain Buddhas.
Mais ce sont surtout les prétendues «scènes d'adoration», dont nos
sculpteurs ont exploité le caractère vague et neutre pour mettre
leurs clients sur un pied de familiarité de plus en plus grande
avec le Maître. Nous nous sommes déjà expliqué plus haut sur les
